Colossians: A Light in a Dark World (Bible book study)
In an effort to not only apply our skills covered in Hermeneutics 101: How to Read the Bible, but also to focus on our goal to increase Bible literacy, Resurrection University ends the semester with a book study through the letter to the Colossians. In six lessons, we will incrementally cover the content of the text while also utilizing our 6-step hermeneutical method.

Book Study - Colossians, Part 1
Lesson 1 in our book study through Colossians, we introduce the letter by observing the first 15 verses of chapter 1, all while utilizing the 6-step hermeneutical process taught in the Hermeneutics 101 series.
Book Study - Colossians, Part 2
In Lesson 2 of our book study through Colossians, guest lecturer Dr. Steve Roy masterfully covers Col. 1:15-23 and reminds us that “Because of who Jesus Christ is and because of what he does, it is the eternal purpose of God that in everything Jesus Christ might have the supremacy.”
Book Study - Colossians, Part 3
In lesson 3 of our book study through Colossians, we look at Colossians 1:24-2:3, wherein Paul helps us understand God’s eternal purpose in your suffering - To reveal Christ’s supremacy, which is the hope of Glory.
Book Study - Colossians, Part 4
In lesson 4 of our book study in Colossians, we cover Colossians 2:4-23. Here, Paul competes against the false teachers by utilizing a point/counterpoint rhetoric. Ultimately, Paul dissects the view of the false teachers while encouraging the believers to allow their status as “in Christ” inform the way they “live Christ.”
Book Study - Colossians, Part 5
In lesson 5 of our book study through Colossians, we look at Colossians 3:1-4:1. In this passage, we see what it looks like to live a life with your mind “set on things above” (v. 1), both in how we put off the old (vv. 5-11), put on the new (vv. 12-17), and live out Christ-centered lives at the core of society - the household (vv. 3:18-4:1).
Book Study - Colossians, Part 6
In our sixth and final lesson of our Colossians book study, we cover Colossians 4:2-18, wherein we learn that the light we bear inside of us must also be the light that shines outside of us.
