Apologetics 101: Christian Faith and Contemporary Challenges

Today, many ideological challenges are pressing up against the church. Scientific proofs, relativism, and a general disdain for the supernatural creates an easily packaged, fast food solution to the question of “is there a God?” To which, as we have seen, the progression of logic often leads to “no.” As such, Christianity and its claims are rendered moot because God cannot be proven. This, however, is a dramatically mistaken conclusion. Much like fast food, its easy on the eyes but it does not satisfy the “meatier” questions at stake (pun intended). The reality is, there is much evidence to prove the existence of the Christian God, so much so there is a field dedicated to its systematization – apologetics. This semester, we will be taking a brief look at the realm of apologetics by answering the big questions and reasoning through why Christian Theism is not only true, but it provides the most plausible explanation for why all things are the way that they are.

All of the lessons and the corresponding notes can be found below.

Apologetics 101, Part 1 - Is There a God?

Because “An eternal creator God exists” is a defining belief of an orthodox Christian worldview” we must ask “does that God exist” and then we must provide the plausible assertions toward His existence, positing – for lack of a better word – that he is, above all explanations, best.

Apologetics 101, Part 2 - Was There a King? The Search for Jesus

With the established premise of a creator God, we must also further delineate which God we worship. With an assumed existing God, the historical reliability of Jesus and the plausibility of his resurrection points us to which God this is – namely, the Christian God.

apologetics 101. Part 3 - Is the Bible Reliable?

This week, search for God’s work in sustaining the Word through the generations. This includes the processes of copying, the validity of Scripture in relation to world historical events, and other variables that reveal the Spirit’s work in preserving the Word of Truth.

Apologetics 101, Part 4 - Creation: Chaos or Canvas?

We have observed the plausibility of God existing, and now we apply that structure to what we see and what we know. We begin with what we see – namely, that creation has creative intent, and it would require substantially more faith to believe it a derivation of chaos.

Apologetics 101, Part 5 - What is Truth? The Search for “Original”

Largely unanswered by the atheistic community (and the like), the basis for truth becomes asinine when there is no objective center for that truth. In this lesson, God as a solution to the question “what is truth” is determined to be the most probable and the least complex.

Apologetics 101, Part 6 - The Paradox of Evil: Evil as Evidence for God

Any argument levied against God by use of a category such as “evil” assumes that an objective standard of evil and good exist. This lesson will tie in last week’s lesson on Truth and Morality and assert that the existence of evil acts as evidence for His existence rather than against His existence.
